What does the choir sing?
Excellent music in a variety of styles is a hallmark of this choir. We sing traditional music from ages past as well as recently composed music and music composed by our music director, Gerald Custer.
Who can join?
We welcome singers from any age (starting at high school) and any music background. We rehearse in our barrier-free sanctuary and are happy to make any accommodations needed for disabilities. While we would love to have you sing with us year 'round, it is also possible to join the choir for a church holiday season, such as Easter, Advent, or Christmas. You can also just join our summer choir, which does not practice during the week.
When are rehearsals?
From September to June: Our rehearsals are held from 7:30 to 9:30 pm each Thursday. We also gather at 9:15 am each Sunday to exercise our voices and run through the music we've prepared for that day's worship. During the summer, rehearsals are held at 9 am in preparation for the anthem at 10 am worship.
What does Chancel mean?
Chancel [chan sulh] just refers to the area at the front of the sanctuary. At First Presbyterian of Farmington, it is the area with the wooden floor separated by the three steps. This is an area of the sanctuary in which people with a special calling offer their gifts to God as they lead the congregation in worship.
Contact Jerry Custer, our Director of Music. You'll find him very approachable. You can use the Contact Us page of this website, call the church office at 248-474-6170, or just flag him down on Sunday.
