Every Thursday, Fort Street Presbyterian Church in downtown Detroit literally opens their doors to serve over 400 hearty meals to people who are homeless or cannot afford food. Each person fed also leaves with sandwiches for later in the day. In addition, clothing, showers, medical services and haircuts are available and a social worker provides counseling for assistance benefits. Job posting are made available, too.

When can I help?
First Presbyterian Church of Farmington sends volunteers on the fourth Thursday of each month to help serve a meal or work in the clothing closet. Volunteers meet at the church at 7:30 am to carpool and return by 1 pm. If you're not available that Thursday, you can still help on other Thursdays. Call 313-961-4533 for details.
What do volunteers do?
People are also needed from 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. to serve food as well as distribute clothing and shoes.They also welcome volunteers to take part in their 8:30 am Praise Service each Thursday.
