DeaconsMinistries of Care-giving and Concern"It is the duty of deacons first of all to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith." Book of Order G-6.0402
VisitationDeacons contact members who have been ill, are house-bound, in the hospital, grieving, or have other needs. On the first Sunday of the month, when the congregation normally celebrates communion, members of the Board of Deacons will serve communion to homebound and hospitalized members.
Stephen ministers support the deacons in their ministry of Visitation and Concern. Individual Stephen Ministers are assigned an individual care-recipient with whom they regularly meet to assist during periods of personal crisis. (read more...)
Card Ministry
Well-wishes, get-well wishes and cards of concern remind members and family of the congregation that they are in the thoughts and prayers of the Deacons.
Funeral and Memorial Receptions The prayer chain is an opportunity for members to go to God with petitions for others asking His blessings and healing power. To submit a prayer request for the prayer chain, use the online form or by contacting a deacon.
Prayer Shawl Ministry Members gather to knit and crochet shawls on two Monday mornings a month – and some in the evenings at home. Completed shawls are dedicated during worship and presented to friends and members who are going through major life changes or illness.
Shepherding
Deacons touch base twice a year with church members per telephone, generally in April and October. Wellness Program: Deacons sponsor special events for the congregation and community covering current interest topics related to spiritual, physical, and mental health. |
