Prayer Shawl Ministry

Members of our congregation gather to knit and crochet shawls on two Monday mornings a month - and some work evenings at home.  All members of this ministry share a deep concern for others as well as the ability to knit lovely shawls.  As the shawls are made, prayers are offered for the future recipient and shawls are dedicated during regular worship before being presented to an individual.  The shawls are particularly meant for those who are ill or are going through major life changes, such as a student going off to college.

This movement is part of a larger ecumenical prayer shawl ministry.  Both knitters (crocheters, etc) and recipients of this ministry attest to its meaningfulness.  The shawls become not just symbolic of God's inclusive, enfolding love, but also of the knitting of prayers together as a Christian community of the church universal. The tag that is placed on each finished shawl says it all:

This shawl was made just for you

to bring you comfort, to know you are loved,

to wrap you up when you are cold,

when you are hurting , when you need to snuggle.

This shawl was made with blessing, with love, with prayers.

We welcome anyone who enjoys knitting or crocheting to join us.  Check the "This week" page to find exact meeting dates. (It is usually every other Monday at 9:30 am upstairs in the parlor.)

If you know of a need for a prayer shawl, please contact a deacon.
